Across two albums and several EPs to date, Worcestershire-based artist Inwards – AKA Kristian Shelley – has captivated fans and tastemakers with his unshakable melodies and playfully edgy yet deep and emotive productions that draw on found sounds, modular synths, and a myriad of electronic and acoustic instruments. Along the way, the prolific creator has amassed an archive of unreleased recordings, and it’s from this vault that the new album is drawn, unearthing nine captivating pieces of music which had been “left behind” but whose time has come to see the sunlight.
His distinctive style has earned Inwards numerous champions. MOJO magazine gave his 2020 second album ‘Bright Serpent’ a glowing 4* review to go alongside press takes from Resident Advisor, The Independent, Electronic Sound, Clash, DUMMY, The 405 and more. BBC 6 Music (incl Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne, Tom Ravenscroft, Don Letts, Stuart Maconie), Radio X (John Kennedy), and BBC Introducing (Radio 1 & regional), have given him heavy airtime in the UK, with Selector Radio, Soho Radio, Foundation FM, KCRW and NPR also supporting, among others; while he has also graced high profile DSP playlists. He has also played incredibly well-received live sets, often with an immersive visual element.

After the world came to a holt in 2020, three friends had been weathering the plague in different cities checking in with each other on casual zoom calls and pretending that drinking small Heinekens hundreds of miles apart is just as good as heading to the pub together like they used when they lived in Brighton, the city where they met and forged a friendship.
Fast forwarding to 2022, and the world opening up, normal life started sneaking back in, and before it took full flight for everyone Kris, Vlad & Dave booked in 3 days in a studio in Manchester run by Lewis, a childhood friend of Dave’s.
The studio booking was really just an excuse around which to corner a much overdue hang, but in the time spent there, aside from drinking and smoking their way through a little too much of everything a couple good songs fell into place.
The studio is called Dead Basic, and its special aura is also what named this collaborative release, with each of the three tracks laying out the address where it is located line by line.
After re-discovering these files on a hard drive 8 months after the recording, the files made their way to Josh Trinnamman (Lou) who has given them their final shape with his production and mixing, cornerstoning this as a first release in a series of collaborations.
